Featured Conditions

Acne

Acne affects almost all people at some point in their lives. While once thought to be a condition limited to adolescence, it is now well known that acne can begin in the third and fourth decades of life. Our individualized treatment plans target the various elements responsible for acne lesions. Fortunately there are a number of topical and oral medications for the treatment of this difficult condition. Additionally, several procedures can be performed in the office to treat acne flares as well as longstanding acne lesions.

Hirsutism

Hirsutism or excessive hair growth can be the result of a genetic predisposition and sometimes can be indicative of certain hormonal imbalances. We will assess the cause of any excessive hair growth and have several methods to treat unwanted hair. Our lasers are safe for all skin hues and can remove unwanted hair from all areas of the body. Laser hair removal treatments are performed over the course of several sessions. Additionally, with the reduction of hair all of the associated imperfections of the skin such as shaving bumps and blemishes improve.

Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation, also colloquially known as “dark marks” or blemishes, are commonly the end-result of many common skin conditions such as acne or eczema. They can also arise from excessive sun exposure and hormonal changes. These lesions can be particularly evident in patients with darker skin tones. We use both topical agents and in-office procedures in the treatment of hyperpigmentation.

PSEUDOFOLLICULITIS

Skin imperfections from shaving and other hair-associated blemishes are extremely common. While the exact cause of these bothersome and occasionally disfiguring lesions is not completely understood, they are thought to be secondary to the curly and thick anatomy of certain hair types. We have achieved great success in treating this condition with education on proper shaving techniques along with in-office laser procedures, topical medications and with tailored skincare products from our apothecary.

HIDRADENITIS SUPPURATIVA

Hidradenitis Suppurativa is a condition characterized by chronic and recurring painful lesions in the underarms and other parts of the body. While anyone can be affected by this condition it is exceptionally prevalent in men and women of color. We take a special interest in the treatment of HS with various modalities.

HYPERHIDROSIS

Excessive sweating can present a problem from both a comfort and social stigma standpoint. We employ a variety of treatments to help eliminate excessive sweat production from the underarms, hands and feet. Our most effective treatment for excessive sweating is the in-office administration of botox that leads to excellent results and is covered by most insurance plans.

PIGMENTARY DISORDERS

Derma di Colore specializes in conditions that cause both loss-of and excessive pigment. We will tailor your treatment with a variety of topical medications, skin peels and laser modalities.

SCALP DISORDERS/ALOPECIA

Scalp disorders stemming from numerous causes are treated comprehensively at Derma di Colore. These disorders often lead to varying degrees of hair loss and thinning. We will initially perform a thorough history and examination to try to best determine the primary cause of the hair thinning also known as alopecia. Based on these findings, we will create a tailored and all-inclusive treatment plan including topical medications and in-office treatments to restore growth.
